Blend and hourly production rates : their influence on the threshing yield of Burley tobacco

In existing threshing systems, the quality of the threshing yield is determined by the type of tobacco leaf and the hourly production rate. In the case of Italian Burley tobacco treated in blend and having assorted middle, bottom or upper leaves, at the beating stage, we examined the results obtained from four blends which underwent three levels of hourly production. Blend B60M40 (B = Bottom leaves, M = Middle) was treated at a rate of 3500, 4000 4500 kg/ha; Blend B20M80 was treated at a rate of 4000 and 4500 and 5000 kg/ha; Blend M100 was treated at a rate 4500, 4750 and 5000 kg/ha and finally blend M70A30 (A = Upper leaves) was treated at a rate of 4000, 4500 and 5000 kg/ha. The analysis of variance of the factorial combinations of blends and production rates showed significance of the main effects for both factors and of the interaction for the sets of blends : B60M40, B20M80 and M70A30 at the production rates of 4000 and 4500 kg/ha and B20M80 and M70A30 at the rates of 4000, 4500 and 5000 kg/ha. For the set of blends B20M80, M100 and M70A30 at the rates of 4500 and 5000 kg/ha, only the main effect of blends and the interaction were significant.
