The determination of Cu, Cd, and Pb in tobacco and tobacco products by stripping anodic voltametry

Stripping anodic voltametry has been used for the determination of Cu, Cd and Pb in tobacco and tobacco products. The sensitivity of the method and the established work conditions assure good reproducibility, permitting simultaneous determination of the three heavy metals. The values obtained are in agreement with those reported previously in the literature. The enhanced transfer of Cd to mainstream cigarette smoke is evident. The method is applicable in the routine analytical loboratory, having similar precision but requiring less expensive equipment than atomic absorption spectroscopy or neutron activation techniques.
