The purpose of these studies was to substantiate the assessment of ecological favourability, of the yield capacity of the lands (evaluation) in Romania, for tobacco growing. Quantitative criteria were established connected with the ecological features of the five main tobacco types grown in Romania. The results led to the best utilization of the yield potential of the lands used for tobacco growing, by identifying the specific nutrition balances and the possibilities of influencing them. The assessment of the favourability of the medium, was achieved on ecologically homogeneous pieces of land [TEO], from the point of view of the environmental conditions, and of the manifestation of the ecological factors and determinatives. The results of the studies conducted in over 50 representative ecosystems allowed the establishment of the areas most favourable for tobacco growing, and on the other side, where the economical reasons require this, to substantiate proper technologies for the limiting conditions, with the lowest investments and assuring good quality tobacco. The studies contributed to the assessment of the eco-climatic influences, of certain technological deficiencies and by finding the processes and mechanisms taking place, to the changes in the technological links which proved limiting to the efficiency of the ecosystem and in the biological quality of tobacco.
