Experiences with transplant water fertilizers

Trials have been conducted on the University of Georgia Tifton Campus Bowen Farm for the last 10 years to evaluate the early grow of tobacco receiving applications of water soluble fertilizer in the transplant water at the time of transplanting ranging from 1.0 to 1.75 lbs N/A and 3 to 6 lbs P2O4/A. Results suggest greater early root growth, earlier plant establishment and faster early plant growth when transplant water fertilizer is added. Yield and quality among the fertilizer treatments do not vary greatly. However, all fertilizer treatments resulted in significantly greater yields than the non-treated check which received the first fertilizer application two weeks after transplanting. (Reprinted with permission)
