Actigard (CGA-245704) was evaluated for blue mold ( Peronospora tabacina ) control on Burley tobacco in replicated field experiments at research stations located at Waynesville, NC, in 1995 and 1996 and at Laurel Springs in 1996. Blue mold disease levels ranged from low to moderate in the three tests, and Actigard treatments reduced blue mold damage compared to nontreated controls. However, tobacco leaves in Actigard treated plots were noticeably chlorotic, and treated plants at the Laurel Springs site were stunted. Yields were significantly reduced by Actigard treatments in the Laurel Springs test, but not in the two Waynesville tests. Actigard does appear to have activity against blue mold, but it also appears to have potential for reducing yields.
