From the year 1996 to 2000 some experiments were made in 5 locations of the country in order to compare the traditional fertilization with 4 other alternatives including potassium nitrate. All treatments resulted in increased yields, higher number of useful leaves and export wrapper and also a large increase in income compared with the traditional treatment. This is made possible by the incorporation of the nitric nitrogen and soluble potassium in the three application of fertilizers. The chemical leave properties will be better where the nitric nitrogen appears. The contents of potassium, calcium and magnesium are greater than in the traditional treatment. These greater values gave a better leave quality to the plant, great resistance to weather conditions and also great tolerance to diseases. The quality analysis made to the picked leaves were positive in all the evaluated aspects: elasticity, combustibility, color, ash and smoke, in fact, the main organoleptic parameters are not affected.
