This paper describes the method of measurement and evaluation of air flow velocities within the conventional smoking hood. It recounts the design and development stages and the evaluation of the harmonized SM400 smoking hood within working smoking laboratories. This paper also relates the independant work undertaken by Cranfield Institute of Technology on analysing and improving the flow characteristics of smoking machines.
