Irrigation and fertilization are among the most important agrotechnical measures in the oriental tobacco production. This was confirmed by our investigations carried out in a locality of Berovej (Pelagonija) in the course of 1993, 1994 and 1995. These measures increase tobacco production per hectare for even 70,06%, which is very important for its profitability. It should also be mentioned that they had a positive effect on tobacco quality, which was slightly improved. It might be stated from the results that agroecological conditions in Pelagonija require an application of agrotechnical measures for profitable and high-quality production of the Oriental tobacco type Prilep.
