Leaf hairs in Nicotiana. II. Influence of heredity on pubescence in Nicotiana genus

DELON R.; SCHILTZ P.
The influence of hereditary factors on the density and morphology of leaf hairs in Nicotiana is demonstrated. Hybridization of dark tobacco with oriental type tobacco produces first-generation plants whose leaves show a greater pilosity than either parent. Polyploidy induces a decrease in the number of trichomes per area unit, but these are greater in length. Amphiploidy may produce plants with leaf hair associations which do not exist in the initial parents.
