Leaf pubescence in 22 different species representing 12 sections of genus Nicotiana was examined through both photon and scanning electron microscopes. The phylogenetic aspect of trichomes is discussed, and some differences were noted with observations made by other authors. The study was essentially aimed towards the discovery of species with glandular hairs likely to produce substances of an aromatic character.
