During the summers 1976/1977 we have carried out trials of drop-by-drop irrigation on tobacco. During the first year we have grown dark air-cured tobacco on plots of 40 plants, during the second year dark and light air-cured on plots of 100 plants. The aim of the experiment was to analyze the influence of the drop-by-drop irrigation and the fractionized application of fertilizers on the growth. For the dark air-cured tobacco we studied the influence of increasing K2O doses, for the light air-cured tobacco the one of N. The main morphological features of the leaves were studied on cured and on fermented tobacco. With an average fertilization the yield was higher both from yield and qualitative point of view and this is in comparison with the classical production methods. Compared with a furrow irrigation, the localized drop-by-drop irrigation saved 66 to 80% of water.
