A newly developed instrument for on site test of tobacco and for routine controls under processing is reported. This is a portable NIR spectrophotometer, which measures moisture content of leaf, strips, or cut tobacco without any preparation. The accuracy of moisture analyses are: 0,3% for cut tobacco; 0.5% for strips; 0.7% for leaf. The report also contains the first experiences in tobacco testing with this instrument.
