Possibilities of cutworms (Agrotis sp.) control in tobacco

DANON V.
Tobacco Institute, Zagreb, Yugoslavia.
Agrotis sp. provokes a lot of troubles in tobacco as well as in other field crops in Yugoslavia. The results of the control performed from 1984-1988 are presented in this paper. As there was no correlation between the number of Agrotis sp. adults in the light traps and the number of cutworms in the fields, treatments were applied after the attack. The trials were made on the plots infested with 9-28 specimen/ha. The most common species were Agrotis segetum and Agrotis ypsilon. The treatment after infestation was more effective. The best results were obtained by using deltamethrin at 12.5 g a.i./ha and cypermethrin at 100 g a.i./ha. In the experimental plot the following insecticides were used : cynalotrine at 20 g a.i./ha, esfenvalerate at 20 g a.i./ha, carbofuran at 700 g a.i./ha, Fonfos at 1,000 g a.i./ha, benfuracarb at 1,000 g a.i./ha, carbaryl at 120 g a.i./ha.
