Selecting tobaccos for their tar content. II. Experiment to breed varieties for their tar potential and alkaloid content

SCHILTZ P.; ALBO J.P.; COUSSIRAT R.
Breeding tobacco varieties with the lowest possible tar/nicotine ratio is one of geneticists' objectives. Thanks to rapid means of selection for tar content (micro-pyrolysis cotyledon-test) it appeared possible to lower the potential in tar yield of dark tobacco varieties, while maintaining a high nicotine content.
