In looking for good menthol adsorption aluminium silicate is selected as a material for study several adsorbents which contain aluminium silicate or incorporate other metallic elements as Ca, Mg, Cu, etc., have been prepared by studying their adsorption capacities under different preparative conditions. The loss of menthol in the adsorbents is 1.23-10.41%, when the adsorbents were exposed to the ambient atmosphere for 60 days. The relationship between the menthol adsorbing-holding power of the adsorbents and their physical properties, such as specific surface area, specific pore volume, and diameter of micropores, is discussed. The appropriate average diameter of micropores is 70-80 angstroems. When 40-70 mg of the mentholated absorbents is added to the cigarette filter an intense menthol flavor is obtained on smoking. TPM in the smoke is reduced by 20-32%, and nicotine by 17-29%, compared to the control cigarette. (Calcium, Magnesium, Copper )
