Several experiments have been carried out in the course of tobacco research in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of the Federal Republic of Germany and these experiments have produced a positive result for future operations arising from two new techniques. The starting point is the rearing, partly or predominantly, of the plants at farms where young plants are being grown. Success was achieved in an experiment involving the precise drilling of uncoated tobacco seed in seed-pans by means of a pneumatically operating machine as well as direct transplanting without previous cultivation of the plants.
