The main factors affecting flue-cured tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) cultivation on bris sandy soil in Peninsular Malaysia were discussed. Field experiments were conducted to determine the various nutrient requirements for tobacco on this type of soil. The results indicated that liming at 2.0 m ton/ha for the first year followed by 1.0 m ton/ha in the alternate years could increase the soil pH from 4.5 to 5.7-6.0. Fertilizer application at 105 kg N per ha, 220 kg P2O5 per ha and 330 kg K2O per ha with supplementary irrigation from overhead sprinkler showed a yield of 2500 kg/ha cured leaf could be achieved. The importance of liming, fertilization and cultural practices were also emphasized.
