This paper deals with the technological, nutritional and zootechnical results obtained in a 2 years research carried out on a EEC-Agrimed project related to the innovative tobacco utilization. The proposed technology is based on the following steps : tobacco milling - antioxidant addition - pulp pressing - feed formation from fiber silage - juice heating - juice centrifugation and filtration - proteinaceous fractions recovering - ultrafiltration - dehydration - Food and medical uses of the protein fractions. In fact, the technology utilized results in several pure protein fractions and some by-products which could be profitably utilized for : a) pharmaceutical and medical utilization; b) human nutrition; c) animal feeding. At present, the utilizations b) and c) are already possible while a) is under investigation and some preliminary toxicological results will be showed. Economical evaluation will be also available. Solution of the agronomical problems is a key-poin t of the general feasibility of the idea. A joint paper will specifically deal with such a matter.
