n 1995 the infestation control Sub Group of CORESTA published a book on Post-harvest Tobacco Infestation Control edited by Lee Ryan. In this publication the best practices for effective pest management systems and procedures were addressed. This document was well received within the tobacco industry however it was recognised that it would be beneficial to complement it with a series of videos which could be used for education and training. The infestation control Sub Group therefore appointed a task force with the objective of producing videos which would convey the main themes of the book, in a user friendly medium, to those involved in the day to day operations of tobacco processing. The task force decided on a modular video format comprised of:Video 1 : "A Force to be Reckoned With" - an introduction and overview to the key aspects of infestation control.Video 2 : "Handle with Care" - which describes the best practice for the various methods of fumigating tobacco. Video 3 : "First Line of Defence" - which focuses on preventing infestation by good sanitation management at all stages of tobacco processing i.e. from farm gate to retail outlet.
