The electronic cigarette or e-cigarette is rapidly becoming a "must have" accessory for social smokers in the UK, other European countries and the United States to beat smoking bans. The device allows legal inhalation of a nicotine vapour with no combustion of tobacco, giving the smoker a controlled dose of the addictive chemical. At around GBP 40 (EUR 44.12) for a kit this seems to be the ideal solution for social smokers, but various health organisations and governments around the world disagree. The electronic cigarette has unleashed heated debate in government, caused reactionary banning, unsupported by scientific evidence, and outright hostility from the anti-smoking lobby.
