CORESTA’s vision is to be recognised by our members and relevant external bodies as an authoritative source of publicly available, credible science and best practices related to tobacco and its derived products.

The theme of the 2020 Congress is “Integrated Science: Opportunities and Challenges”:

The Scientific Commission views the forthcoming Congress as an opportunity for delegates to share their experience and advancements in science with the broader scientific community.  Addressing the needs of CORESTA’s many diverse stakeholders is critical to having an integrated and sustainable tobacco sector.

The rapidly changing industry dynamics and regulatory environment creates an opportunity to guide CORESTA strategy for scientific research to better serve our stakeholders’ needs.   Scientific evidence must be the basis for product regulation and standards development through international collaboration and open exchange of knowledge.

In view of preparing the Congress programme, CORESTA looks forward to presenters taking this overall theme into consideration when submitting abstracts.

Topics can include (but are not restricted to):

  • Low nicotine (agronomic, genetic, smoke and product)
  • 21st century toxicology
  • Sustainability (environmental, social, economic, etc.)
  • Breeding (technology and tools, variety development, etc.)
  • Crop production and environmental protection (CPAs, IPM, bio-control, etc.)
  • Analytical, biological, and clinical evaluations (leaf and manufactured products)
  • Product innovation, design and characterization (e-cigarette, heated tobacco, smokeless products, etc.)
  • Consumer experience and patterns of use
