REZAEI A.
Iran Tobacco Company, Tehran, Iran

Various types of chemical compounds are used to combat pests, diseases and weeds in Iran tobacco farms located in the northern and western provinces. Long-term use of these chemicals has profound effects on the ecosystems of the region. The present review has been conducted by study of various scientific sources, agronomic and ecological information about the region. The results show that although the sustainable agriculture is achievable in the region but the concept of it, is unknown for tobacco farmers and the excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers are common in the tobacco cultivation process. Multiple cropping systems, crop rotation, integrated pest and weed management, conservation tillage, organic control and organic pesticides are among the effective methods in the region to reduce the effects of pesticides and preserve the natural ecosystem of it.
