Effect of nitrogenous fertilizer on chemical compounds in leaf

ROMAN T.
Research in Poland on Virginia tobacco has shown that high rates of nitrogenous fertilizers exert unfavourable influence on the levels of alkaloids, specific protein, and carbohydrates in tobacco leaves. Plants synthetized more alkaloids and specific protein and less carbohydrates as the dosage of nitrogenous fertilizer was increased. Climatic factors, e.g. temperature, also affected the content of the mentioned compounds.
