In 1985 and 1986, four fungicides were used against tobacco seedbed damping-off : 1) Terraclor Supr-X (Terraclor 46.8% (pentachloronitrobenzene) + Terrazole (ETCMTD) 11.5% (5-ethoxy-3-trichloromethyl-1,2,4-thiadiazole) ), 2) Zinc omadine 40% W.P. (zinc 2-pyridinethiol 1-oxide); 3) Tecto (thia-bendazole : MSD 60% 2-(4-thiazolyl)-bezimidazole;) 4) Previcur N (Propamocarb hydrochloride 72.2% (propyl-(3-dimethylamino) propyl) - carbamate monohydrochloride). Previcur N had 7 different treatments. All chemicals were applied in water suspensions by watering. Terraclor Super-X gave an excellent protection, whereas Previcur N applied immediately after sowing, at 28 and 45 days after sowing, at a rate of 5 ml/m2 gave very good results. Good results were achieved by using zinc omadine, Tecto and Previcur N applied immediately after sowing and 28 days later at 3 ml/m2 plus 7 ml/m2, respectively. The same results (good) were achieved by using Previcur N following sowing and at 28, and 45 days later at the rates of 4 ml/m2 + 3 ml/m2 + 3 ml/m2, respectively. The rest of Previcur N treatments gave no satisfactory results. All chemicals, at the rates and modes of application used, were not phytotoxic.
