For optimizing strips cutting and improving the consistence of physical quality of cigarette, the results of traditional cutting and fixed-length cutting were investigated in terms of cut tobacco structure, cigarette’s manufacturing quality and tobacco consumption. The results showed that: comparing with traditional cutting, 1) 40 mm fixed-length cutting decreased the proportion of long strands (> 3.35 mm in length) and increased the proportion of cut tobacco < 3.35 mm in length, and the proportion between long strands and middle-short strands was improved; 2) fixed-length cutting significantly increased the stability of physical quality of cigarette, the rate of cigarette not up to the standard weight decreased from 5.2 % to 2.2 %, the standard deviation of individual cigarette weight reduced by more than 12 %, and the standard deviations of draw resistance and hardness of cigarette also reduced to a certain degree; 3) the cut tobacco consumption per 50000 cigarettes decreased, but the strips consumption per 50000 cigarettes increased.
