Tobacco in Cuba is an important agricultural activity. The actual area under crop is close 67,000 hectares, mainly dedicated to the different tobacco types, especially the covered black tobacco for its important economic incidence. Most of the planted area is done in rainy season and furrow irrigation conditions. The pressurized drip irrigation system is of recent introduction into the country and has had rapid growth. In order to assess the influence of this advanced technology on the real needs of the producer, such as: saving water, energy, fertilizer, labor; simplify agricultural chores and eliminate environmental pollution, an investigation was conducted on production conditions. This paper gives the results of the use of soluble fertilizers via fertigation on 'capero' black tobacco, applied on an area of the Lazaro Pena Tobacco Company, in the Havana and Pinar del Rio provinces in Cuba. It was proven that with fertigation application, yield increased substantially (>50%) and also tobacco quality, mainly in the percentage of leaves for export which increased on average from 30% to 80% with fertigation.
