Note on the improvement of blue mold (Peronospora tabacina Adam) resistance in dark air-cured tobaccos cultivated in Algeria

HOCINE H.; DELON R.; LUTZ J.P.
Successful culture of tobacco in Algeria, depends to a large extent on obtaining varieties resistant to blue mold (Peronospora tabacina Adam). Breeding studies to this end were carried out by hybridization between Algerian dark air-cured tobacco varieties, adapted to local conditions, and lines having a higher level of resistance to the disease. The results of this selection are reported. Four lines with a resistance higher than Spaka, the reference variety, and possessing interesting agronomic and industrial characteristics are presented : BS 46-5, BS 61-4, BS 105-4, BS 1091-2.
