A new method for producing sun-cured tobacco plants using float system was initiated in Lucugnano (Lecce) in 1995. Three genotypes of sun-cured tobacco (Xanthi, Perustitza ,and Erzegovina) were used. They were seeded in polystyrene trays and put in water containing nutritive solution with 130 ppm N, 44.5 ppm P, and 60 ppm K. At the same time, the same 3 genotypes were seeded on conventional beds. During the growing of the plantlets with the two different seedbed methods, growth and development parameters were recorded for the 3 genotypes of sun-cured tobacco.
