In order to investigate the relationship between color characteristics and chromogenic substances of the flue-cured tobacco leaves from Shandong, the cured leaf was sampled and leaf color was quantification analyzed, and the relationships between color characteristic values and contents of polyphenol and carotenoid were discussed. The results showed that: the color spectra of tobacco leaves from different areas of Shandong Province differed obviously. The spectrum reflectivity and brightness (L*) of leaves from Yishui and Feixian and the red index (a*) of leaves from Linqu were higher than those from the other areas. The contents of polyphenol and carotenoid in tobacco leaves from different areas also differed greatly. Yishui and Feixian leaves possessed higher polyphenol content and lower caroteniod content, while Linqu leaves had lower polyphenol content and higher carotenoid content. The correlation analysis indicated that the contents of new chlorogenic acid, 4-o-caffoylquinic acid and chlorogenic acid significantly or extremely significantly positively correlated to L* and negatively correlated to a*, while lutein, β-carotene and carotenoid significantly or extremely significantly negatively correlated to L* and significantly positively correlated to a*.
