This paper describes the status and improvement of tobacco production in China in recent years. Because China State Tobacco Monopoly Administration has paid more attention to tobacco planting, and cooperated with foreign tobacco corporations such as Philip Morris and British American Tobacco, great improvements have taken place in tobacco cultivation practices in China. Firstly, we set up some very good sources of raw materials, secondly, a way for developing tobacco production using science and technique has been carried out. The management of tobacco seeds has gone on a correct and regular way. Some tobacco planting techniques, such as seedbed fumigation, seed coating, seedling with nutrient bags, clipping, nitrate nitrogen, chemical inhibitor and so on have been adopted in most tobacco planting areas. CNTC has realized the importance of the leaf maturity and tobacco curing technology. Up to now, 481800 new barns were built and 1169800 old barns rebuilt. The three-stage tobacco curing technology has been accepted by most farmers. In some districts, the tobacco leaf quality has caught up with that of some leading countries in tobacco planting in the world.
