Study on possible cytoplasmic contributions to physical and chemical characteristics of flue- and air-cured tobacco

Two approaches were used to determine possible maternal contributions to yield and chemical characteristics in tobacco. With flue-cured tobacco a backcrossing program led to the establishment of various lines that could be compared with the original parents for possible cytoplasmic inheritance. With air-cured tobacco a complete diallel was analysed for possible maternal influences.
