Yield and quality performances of the doubled haploid lines of Aegean tobaccos

EMIROGLU U.; SEKIN S.; CAKIR M.
Androgenetic doubled-haploid (DH) lines that were produced from six different F1 combinations of blue mould resistant Aegean tobaccos were grown under field conditions. In order to assess their agronomic and quality performances, two of them were selected (DH-65 and DH-204) and grown in a tobacco grower's field in Akhisar in 1988. With regard to cured leaf yield, both lines surpassed the standard slightly. DH-204 appeared to possess better quality characteristics, i.e. better texture, lighter colour, lower nicotine and higher sugar content. However, the wilting of its leaves during harvest was a disadvantage, though not very severe. In 1989, five DH lines were compared in a replicated trial. Besides the standard cultivar of the region (Karabaglar 6265), DH-204 was also included in the experiment.
