No. 17 - Stem Content of Lamina Strips

(CRM developed into ISO 12195)

Jan. 1991

This CORESTA Recommended Method (CRM) is concerned with the measurement of the stem content of lamina strips. The lamina strips arise from leaf threshing or hand stripping operations and can be from any tobacco type including, for example, flue-cured, burley, and cigar tobaccos. The stem in lamina test method is to take a sample of tobacco strips and to pass it through a Cardwell type Quality Control Stem Tester. This is a small scale thresher and separating tower which threshes and classifies the residual stem from the lamina in a controlled manner.
